Kids aren't eating enough fruits and vegetables, and when they do consume produce, they are more likely to eat french fries than nutrient-rich dark green or orange vegetables, a study shows.
That won't surprise parents who have been trying to tempt their kids with better diets for years.
Researchers at Ohio State University analyzed government data on 6,500 children and teens, ages 2-18, and found that the children were consuming an average of 2 cups of fruits, vegetables and juice a day. Teens ate only slightly more than that.
The government nutritional guidelines base recommended produce intake on total calories consumed. The range is 2 to 6½ cups of fruits and vegetables each day, based on an intake of 1,000 to 3,200 calories a day. Someone consuming 2,000 calories a day should eat 2 cups of fruit and 2½ cups of vegetables a day.
The article goes on to say that French fries are the most common type of vegetable children eat. Fries account for about one-quarter of children's vegetable intake.
And that Juice makes up about 40% of kids' fruit intake.
Interesting.

| Healthy food and kids..almost like oil and water in a conversation together. Now, I can only speak from the feedback of my niece and close friends' kids, but here is what I am seeing for some... Some have blended veggies and added them other recipes, some have played small games to make eating healthy fun, I have even seen where they have placed food in the center of the table starting with veggies (mom and dad serve themselves and allow their little one to do the same. They don't bring the other things that are more "eatable" to the table until they have eaten veggies.) This can all be a success or tiring But the latest realization have been that their little bodies need assistance just like ours. More and more are getting on board with the vitamin program. Now, I can't give you any advice on how to raise children- although my growing up in a large family helps- but I can be of assistance on finding the right vitamin for your child that actually works Nakiya K

Thanks for the inputs NakiyaK! I am pretty sure those will work to a lot of kids since they sound a lot more fun rather than "you need to eat...". I will surely try them suggestions with my son!
I have already mashed carrots and squash (I don't like how the blending them smells a little different from mashing them by hand) and mixed them with his oats. While feeding, I have tried watching "Baby Einstein" and the likes while feeding my 5 month old baby. These days, the movements on the video does not seem to interest him as much as it used to so my fiance' tried reading and showing him pictures on his baby books. It takes a lot more energy but it does work to a certain degree as well.
I guess all babies are different so maybe these tips will work better and longer to everyone else but not with my son so I am laying them down here for everyone to try as well.
Anyone else have any great ideas on this topic?

| To answer the question about fruits. There is a product called Monavie. There is a version for children and by drinking 4 oz a day they would be getting the approximately 13 servings of fruit per day. Its the only way I am able to get the proper required servings per day.
