It's time to drag out the lawn furniture, clear the winter debris from the yard, and get ready for those great summer barbecues!

This year I want to try something a little different for the backyard deck but adding those cute and colorful patio lights. And I can't wait for it to be warm enough to place all of my plants around the deck - they look awesome out there!

Does anyone else have any suggestions for making the deck look festive for all those summer barbecues and parties? I'd love to hear them!

It sounds like you’ve got a lot of great ideas in terms of decorations. There’s one important factor that cannot be overlooked for a barbecue and that’s music! Music adds so much to everyone’s enjoyment.

I love picking out great radio stations on Pandora.com and letting them play. You can set up wireless speakers and achieve surround sound on the patio!

If that’s too technical, then you can get an Ipod docking station boombox (under $50 at Target) and put together a killer playlist.

Even a good radio station would work, but there are certain times of day when they bombard you with commercials, so listen out for that.

I typically go for the classics that everyone knows and can enjoy like Motown, oldies or classic rock with some funky new stuff here and there for social gatherings, but that is totally up to the hostess!

What a great idea! I love music, so I often have my Creative Zen mp3 player outside with me. I can plug it into speakers, too.

The only trouble is, the guys always want to listen to the ball game! So, we end up with an argument over whether it's music or sports. We finally figured out a way to compromise. We bring the portable TV outside and turn the volume down, then keep our music playing. That way they can watch the game, and we still get to listen to our music!

Now if only we could figure out how to keep the mosquitoes away...those citronella candles really don't seem to do much.

Any ideas?

I think there is nothing more decorative in the summer than lots of plants and flowers. I spend as much time as I can outdoors planting, pruning and weeding. Then when I have a party, my yard is looking festive naturally.

It's simple, but trust me, there's nothing better than the sweet smell of fresh flowers growing all over the place.

And now, they are all on sale as the stores try to make room for late summer/early fall merchandise, so go crazy planting!
